Amala Restaurant, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray

Amala is a North Indian restaurant located inside the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel in the Palm, Dubai, UAE. They are well known for the luxurious and impressive interiors and the authentic Mughlai cuisine. The cuisine is strongly influenced by Persia and Turkey and is known for its richness, with exotic spices, dried fruits and cream.

From the moment you enter Amala, you will immediately feel the intimacy and warmth of the Indian hospitality. It’s hard not to notice the walls and the magnificent interiors. On the right is a collection of spices imported directly from India, of course. The place is huge with room for enormous pillars that in my opinion added to its authenticity. A chandelier in the center was also a nice addition to the overall design. They also have outdoor seating available but since it’s still summer and it’s a bit humid, they have not opened the area for guests.

The menu that they are offering diners change every 6 months. They told us that they base it on the feedback from guests. If a certain item is not that popular, they replace it with something else. Their newest offer is the tasting menu wherein you can order any item on the menu and will be cooked fresh and hot for you. What’s good about it is that you can try almost everything. They can serve it to you in smaller portions and if you like something and want more of that, you can just tell them and they will prepare it for you.

We tried the Tawa Kanagoora – pan fried scallops with cumin and coriander, Chokhi Tikki, Tiger Prawns, Kebab, Lamb, Chicken tandoori with Samosa, Buttered Chicken, Nan, Biryani and a selection of desserts plus mocktails. I’m not really a fan of Indian food but having tried all of these, I think I am changing my mind. Every single item that was served to us were tasty and was hot off the oven or the grill. The beef was so tender and so was the chicken that you hardly needed the knife. It was so good that I wanted more of everything. It’s also great to see the open kitchen so you know that everything is cooked properly and up to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

The service was top notch. From the time that we entered until we left, we were taken cared of by the staff. The waiters were courteous and knowledgeable and gave us suggestions and answered our questions about the menu and about the restaurant. We arrived at around 7pm and the place was just starting to get packed but still everyone were served on time, all the time. I would also like to commend the pacing of the serving of the food and you will notice that they really know what they are doing. They were there when we needed them and they let us enjoy our food immediately after serving.

The tasting menu has an exclusive set price of AED 220 per person. I honestly think this price is reasonable for the delectable dishes that you will be able to try. And it includes desserts as well so it really is a good value for your money.

To conclude, I undoubtedly enjoyed the extravagant dining experience at this Indian restaurant. Amala takes personalisation to the next level by actually listening to what the diners want. The staff are friendly and you will definitely enjoy dining here. If you’re looking to try the North Indian cuisine then look no further because Amala will be able to provide you that combined with exceptional service in an elegant dining space. I will definitely come back and it’s absolutely highly recommended.
