Two hard-partying brothers place an online ad to find the perfect dates for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves out-hustled by an uncontrollable duo.
Let me start by saying I’ve never laughed that much and hard in a movie. This one is so funny and I can relate to all their witty punchlines and moments. It started hilarious and it’s a good thing they were able to sustain it all the way till the end of the film. By all means it’s not deep and most of the time the jokes are silly and shallow but one thing’s for sure, you will laugh your heart out from start to finish.
The story centered on the four lead characters, the two brothers and the two best friends. It’s exciting to watch how they all got together and went to Hawaii for the wedding. At times, I felt like Apple sponsored this movie as they mentioned Apple Pay and Apple TV and the use of social media and gadgets. Maybe that’s why I can relate to this movie too. I think the humor is intended and will be understood by millennials so it might not appeal to the older generations. 😝
Whoever is responsible for the casting of this movie should give themselves a pat on the back. I believe they chose the best actors to play the characters as they were all effective. Zac Efron in my opinion is not a bit funny but because of the actors that he is with, they somehow sprinkled some funny dust on him and he suddenly became hilarious. Dave played by Adam Devine most popularly known from his role in Pitch Perfect was of course humorous and entertaining. Anna Kendrick was amusing in her role and I didn’t think she can be capable of being this comical. She was definitely a great addition to the cast. Probably one of the most underrated actors is Aubrey Plaza. She was ridiculously good and I don’t think anyone else could have played the role much better than her. The way she delivered her lines and the comedic timing were just perfect.
The cinematography was really good. I like how they used bright colours all throughout the film and everything was vivid and lively even if it’s a night scene. I also have to commend the good use of old and current hits that added to the appeal of the movie. Some of the artists featured in the soundtrack include Flo Rida, Rihanna, Mase, The Darkness, Montell Jordan and a lot more.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is certainly one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The writers did a great job on coming up with a witty script and loads of laughable clever lines. One thing that needs to be taken into consideration though is the use of the F word and loads of sexual references. It’s simple and if you look past the nonsensical scenes and some of the predictable settings, you actually might enjoy it. I hope Mike and Dave and their wedding dates go to another place soon as I would want to see a sequel to this.
Bonus: It’s based on a true story and below are the real Mike and Dave
