Hai Tao is a chinese restaurant located inside the Kempinski Hotel in Ajman. They serve authentic Chinese cuisine, inspired by dishes from the Szechuan and Canton regions with bold and exciting flavours. I’ve been to China once and I can definitely say that Hai Tao is the closest thing you can get to discovering the country’s best-kept culinary secrets.
Entering the restaurant felt like entering a whole new dimension. It’s because the lighting and the mood is different from the happy and bright atmosphere of the hotel. The restaurant has an intimate setting, complete with decor and pieces imported from China and dim lighting that completely sets the mood for closely acquainted fine dining.
The menu selection is pretty straightforward. You can see the usual chinese staple food that we have come to love like spring rolls, dumplings, noodles etc. and the more sophisticated ones like the roast duck and lamb chops. We started with the chicken wanton and seafood soup before everything else and then we had the must have siomai as appetizer. I noticed that it tasted quite different from the ones that I have tried before and I instantly knew that this was how it’s supposed to taste. It was authentic and accurate.
For the main course, we had noodles and spare ribs. It was so good and was cooked to perfection that the beef literally slips from its bone. We also had the sizzling prawns and it was transferred to the hot plate right before you so you can see how fresh it is.
The manager and the staff provided high quality service and made sure that they attended to the needs of all the diners. They were experienced and well informed about the restaurant and the food that they were able to give valuable recommendations on what to order for first timers like us.
Surprisingly, the prices were really affordable. You can definitely enjoy authentic Chinese food without breaking the bank. Plus, they serve alcoholic beverages and wines so it really will be a satisfying experience for everyone.
To sum up, Hai Tao is one of those places where you come to revel in the flavours of the original Chinese cuisine. It is way different from those take away boxes and the restaurants saying they are serving Chinese food only to find out they use additives to enhance the taste. At Hai Tao, you get the real deal in a nice setting, complemented by relaxing soft music in the background and beautiful interior. I will definitely recommend this place as there are only a few good legitimate Chinese restaurants in the UAE and luckily, Hai Tao is one of them.
