If someone asked me for a recommendation on where to go for somewhere truly fresh, vibrant and exciting, I would definitely say Bazxar. The casual dining outlet offering American, Asian and Mediterranean cuisines opened its doors on July this year and has quickly become the popular choice for foodies and yuppies alike.
Described as the ‘food-market-restaurant-wine-bar concept’, Bazxar aims to offer the UAE a disruptive approach to dining morning to night, shaking up the industry with a no nonsense approach to fine food.
Nestled in the buzzing Gate Village in DIFC, Bazxar is that one place you won’t miss. The sounds from the speakers are glaring and can be heard from afar. And as soon as you enter, you will definitely notice the details on the design. The interiors feature contemporary art with rustic wooden flooring, mesh metal work with brass finishes, and specially designed leather furnishing, complemented by an eclectic mix of textures.
The restaurant is divided into different stations such as the Vietnamese where they serve items like bao buns and soups and noodles and the “cool” “Meat District”, where they have burgers and their original naked hotdogs. There is also a bakery and coffee counter; the stunning wine and liquor bar which offers a list of around 30 wines by the glass. And lastly, a lounge area where the resident dj spins his playlist of the current, old school r&b and chill out music.
I came here for the Prohibition Brunch which is on every Friday. Starting at AED295, what you’ll get is an unlimited supply of starters and entrees, one main dish and desserts. You can choose your beverage package: Prohibitionist, Moonshine and Gatsby and turn the focus towards having a seriously good time while savouring the beats from Bazxar’s Resident DJs, Benyamin and Sam B.
The food was definitely prepared intricately with great attention to details. Every item on the menu that we have tried was definitely Instagram-worthy and tasted quite good. I particularly like my beef well done but this one was surprisingly well cooked and tender and savoury. The staff were efficient when we came and were very attentive and catered to all our needs. When more people started arriving, that’s when the service became slower. I had to follow up on the drinks quite a few times which was kind of understandable considering how busy the place was.
My other gripe was that the music was too loud and it was a struggle to hear what the other person is saying and even ordering was difficult so I had to point out my order in the menu instead of saying it to the waiter.
Overall, I had a great time at the Prohibition Brunch at Bazxar. The ambiance was splendid and it had an electric, positive vibe. It almost felt like it’s a huge party that some rich guy threw and it’s just packed and full to the brim. True to their slogan, Bazxar is unquestionably a place where every sip and bite takes you on a new culinary adventure of global influences. It’s a must try and you will definitely have a different but great experience here.
