Tomato and Basilico, Silicon Oasis

Anyone who knows me personally would be aware that I’m fond of pizza and pasta and Italy is one of the countries on my list to visit. I can eat pasta or pizza every day and I will never get tired of it. So I was very happy to discover that an authentic restaurant is in fact operating here in Dubai.

Tomato and Basilico is a family owned restaurant with two branches in Motor City and Dubai Silicon Oasis. I have learned that their passion for cooking started in Rome at a very young age, when they used to watch their Nonna prepare the traditional family Sunday lunch, where all their relatives gathered once a week for a truly Italian feast. When they moved abroad far from their family, they still kept the tradition alive and they would replicate their Nonna’s recipes for their friends and family every Sunday.

The branch in Dubai Silicon Oasis is pretty small compared to the one in Motor City but as soon as you enter, you will immediately feel that you’re at home and almost not eating out at a restaurant. They play Italian music in the background and they use Italian products as decor. The restaurant is very intimate and I think is the perfect place to catch up with friends while enjoying authentic Italian food. They also have an outdoor seating area which is very cozy especially with the weather now.

So what did we have? For starters, we had the Polpettine al Pomodoro and Frittura di Calamari. To be honest, I was just expecting the usual taste but after the first bite, you will realize how good it is. The flavours are bursting in your mouth and the serving is big enough to share. I was also happy at how good it looks and almost resembles the picture in the menu. How many times have you looked at a picture in the menu and it didn’t look like that in real life?

For the pasta, we tried their version of lasagna which I’m very glad to say surpassed my expectations. It was undoubtedly one of the best lasagnas I have ever had. We also had this pasta called Cannelloni di Funghi Radicchio e Ricotta in Salsa Rosa, (Homemade cannelloni lled with ricotta, mushrooms and radicchio in pink sauce) which was also pretty good.

The star of the night was the Montagnola pizza, which is filled with mozzarella, burrata, bacon, porcini and truffle oil. I’m not even a fan of truffle oil but I really liked this combination. It’s certainly different from all the other pizzas I have tried before.

The service is excellent at this restaurant. For a small place, they had a lot of waiters and waitresses so I’m sure you will be taken cared of when you dine in here. They are dressed well and were courteous and attentive to the needs of the clients. And they gave us a whole bowl of cheese which automatically got them brownie points from me!

We completed our dining experience with a selection of desserts, tiramisu, caprese and the Nutella pizza. I don’t like chocolate cakes but the caprese was just different. It was really flavourful and the ice cream complemented it as well. Nutella pizza was something unique and was a blend of savory and sweet but what I would definitely recommend is the tiramisu. It was on point and clearly hit the spot.

Overall, Tomato and Basilico will beyond any doubt give any foodie the ultimate dining experience. They only use imported ingredients and I think that’s also a reason why the food feels and tastes like it came directly from Italy. You also wouldn’t worry about the price. For a taste of Italy, their prices surely are very affordable. It was obvious that Italian food and Italian culture is their passion and it shows from the atmosphere to the food to the staff. If you know your stuff and don’t want to settle for the commercialized pizzas out there, you should definitely try this hidden gem in Silicon Oasis that is Tomato and Basilico. I assure you by the time you finish, you will definitely say “delizioso” and then make sure you give a sharp kiss to your finger tips 💋
