The Red Lion is one of Dubai’s original pubs and an already much-loved institution that was established within the original Metropolitan Hotel in 1979. The pub is a traditional English public house, serving up hearty British fare alongside live sports, music and quiz nights.
I have never been to a proper British pub but from the pictures and videos that I have seen so far from friends and from movies, I can tell that this looks exactly like one of those.
I roamed around the place because it was massive compared to the other pubs that I have visited in Dubai. They have a space for people who want to play darts, another space for billiards, there’s the bar and everywhere there are monitors to watch the game.
I visited the place yesterday with my friends to try out the heavily promoted Saturday Roast. The offering gives you the option to choose from chicken, roast beef or the vegetarian option served with roast vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. The meal costs AED79 and you can also choose from a selection of refreshing beverages to complement the meal. You can also enjoy their happy hour between 4pm – 8pm where drinks are affordably priced at a minimum of AED25.
As soon as we were seated, they offered us some drinks and gave a cupful of popcorn. We then placed our order and waited. I checked the menu and found out that they have a selection of starters, salads, sandwiches, main courses and sides but we only came here for the Saturday roast so we weren’t able to try any other food.
For the roast, we tried the chicken and the beef. They were nicely presented and looked appetizing. Mine was considerably good but I don’t think is enough to warrant a visit to the pub. Maybe next time, I will try the other items on the menu to better gauge their food.
Regarding the service, we were more than happy with the attentive and polite staff and waitresses. I also have to mention that the manager kept on checking on us and asked if we needed something else. The service in the restaurant/pub is highly commended.
Overall, we did have fun yesterday. I liked the loud and energetic atmosphere of the restaurant especially the noise that the fans make as their favorite teams score a goal or when they are winning in a game. It definitely is a fun way to spend the night while drinking ice cold beer and enjoying the food and the company of friends.
