The Street Art Brunch is the special gourmet brunch that happens every Friday at the Nine7One restaurant inside the Oberoi Hotel in Dubai. The award-winning outlet is a sophisticated all-day dining space that serves Arabic, Asian and Western cuisine.
Usually, guests enjoy an al fresco meal in the sun-dappled private courtyard or they have the option to take a seat inside under the light of chandeliers to enjoy views of their masterchefs crafting delicacies in the show kitchen. Last Friday, we were not able to seat outside because of the cold and windy weather so we enjoyed the brunch inside.
The Street Art Brunch incorporates street art graffiti and retro bicycles in the design and you will somehow feel transported into the heart of a bustling market. I believe that though the design is quite good, it’s still lacking in terms of activities. As a suggestion, I think they can probably hire face painters or graffiti artists to do something on the spot. That would have added to the fun since there were a lot of families with kids in tow.
Their menu is inspired by gourmet street food from around the world and features molecular desserts and freshly made beverages. Before you even enter the restaurant, you will already see the desserts station outside. I was told that the theme changes every week, and this time, the chef decided on an Angry Birds themed dessert selection.
The atmosphere inside was really fun and the place was just packed and buzzing. I found the music too loud and it was a bit hard to talk without shouting. We told them about it and right there and then, they did lower the volume a bit and I think it shows that they listen to the feedback from the customers.
Looking around, you can tell that everyone was having fun and the whole place was just lively. It’s like we were at a family gathering where everyone knew each other so it added to our enjoyment. The chefs and all the staff were also accommodating and they were able to give us a brief explanation of every dish that they served before putting it on our table.
I roamed around to see all the offerings in store for the guests. Just like in the streets, you have waffles, nachos, tacos, cheese raclette, cold cuts, salads, shawarma, dosa and probably every kind of street food out there. What I liked the most is that the food was really tasty. I mean every single dish was flavourful and I also loved the fact that you can have as many as you want of anything that your heart (or mouth) desires.
Starting at AED 299 per person, with special rates for group bookings, I think that the Nine7One Street Art Brunch is one of the best brunches I have ever been to. That’s because they got everything right from the food to the service to the design. I know I’ve said it’s somewhat lacking in design and activities, but we go to a brunch to eat and have fun and connect with other people and I believe we were able to do all of that last Friday.
We were even happy for the birthday celebrants at the other table and we didn’t even know anyone of them! The time just went by so quickly and we truly enjoyed this brunch. I would have rated it 5/5 but since there is still some room for improvement, I’m giving it 4.5 for now. It’s really a good brunch and one that I would suggest to my friends and family and is definitely worth spending your hard earned dirhams for!
