Mayta is the newest addition to the burgeoning but still very sophisticated DIFC dining scene. It is the brainchild of Chef Jaime Pesaque which offers a personalized cuisine mixing traditional recipes and modern cuisine techniques, highlighting the ingredients and Peruvian flavors.
Going to the restaurant feels like entering a maze. It’s not the easiest place to find but I like the fact that it makes it kind of special once you have found it. When you enter, you’ll be greeted by contemporary decor with warm hues and lots of color. I love the variations of the wood furniture for when you want to work out of the office, chill with friends, have drinks at the bar or go for a proper meal.
We went here on a Friday to try their MMM brunch and I have learned that Peruvian cuisine reflects local practices and ingredients—including influences from the indigenous population including the Inca and cuisines brought in with immigrants from Europe (Spanish cuisine, Italian cuisine, German cuisine), Asia (Chinese cuisine and Japanese cuisine) and West Africa.
We didn’t really know what to expect but we were sure that the food must be great. Good thing it didn’t disappoint and when the first round of starters were served, we already knew we were in for a treat. The food for this brunch were served on the guests’ table. Unlike the other brunches where they have a massive spread and you just get what you want, this one focused on the essentials and the must-try dishes. And still, like a buffet, you can have as much starters as you want.
For the main course, you can only choose one from their selection. It’s not bad because by the time you get to the main course, you’re already full because of the appetizers. And this might sound like big words but the food at Mayta was amazing and probably one of the best that I’ve had so far. It was so amazing that I think I ate more than I should have eaten on a regular day.
One of the highlights of the restaurant is the bar. It’s a long bar and I believe they can prepare all the concoctions one could ever ask for. I also love the smoke effects that they have at the bar especially when they’re making a drink for a guest. In this brunch, not only can you indulge in all your favorite dishes and drinks served to your table, you can also try something new by getting behind the bar and learn to make them yourself. It’s a fun brunch with an interactive twist not to mention the great music provided by their resident DJ.
The price of the brunch starts at AED250 for non-alcoholic and 325 for house beverages. I believe that this is really worth it considering the excellent service, the great vibes and really amazing non-stop food and drinks to appease you and your palate.
