Jazz@PizzaExpress is a restaurant tucked under the Movenpick Hotel and surrounded by the skyscrapers in Jumeirah Lake Towers in Dubai. It opened in February 2013 and is the first Jazz@PizzaExpress restaurant to open outside of the United Kingdom.
They are slowly redefining the music scene in the UAE and has continued to grow and is gradually becoming the status quo in casual dining and live music in the country.
I just learned that when I visited last night because honestly, I thought it was just another pizza joint but it’s not. I was wrong all this time because they are big on music and as a matter of fact, there is live music every day, 7 days a week by world class musicians.
You will be able to grasp the concept as soon as you enter the restaurant. The cozy ambiance is very welcoming and the extended couch encourages its guests to catch up with each other and enjoy the performance as well. I loved the elegant but intimate setup coupled with the upbeat and lively atmosphere.
As a pizza lover myself, I was excited to try their offerings here. We started by ordering the classic antipasto, a selection of cured meats with large Sicilian olives, buffalo mozzarella, roasted tomatoes, peppers and wild rockets, served with Parmesan flatbread and a selection of dips.
We also tried their burrata to see how it fares when compared to the other Italian restaurants. Good thing it was good and was served fresh so we enjoyed it.
Our mains, of course, included pasta and pizza. We tried the Calabrese which is Spicy Italian sausage, spicy turkey chorizo with peppers, baby mozzarella, wild rocket, and pesto. Needless to say, it was very spicy for me but it was really tasty.
We also had the Spaghetti Gamberoni Piccante. I loved this one as the king prawns were scrumptious and it was only a bit spicy but flavorful.
We finished the meal off with the desserts, Salted Caramel Hazelnut Verrine and the new thing on the menu, Filo Apple Parcel. I was surprised because I wasn’t expecting it to be that good.
The ice cream complemented the crispy pastry parcel very well and the caramel ganache in the cocoa crumble was heavenly. It was presented very ordinarily so I didn’t expect a lot but I really liked it and I would order it again when I come back.
The service is really commendable in the restaurant too. The waiters were attentive and were polite and courteous. Also, the prices are reasonable considering the entertainment and the overall atmosphere of the place. They do have ‘Happy Hour’ offers so it really is the place to go to after work.
To sum up, I did have a ball last night at Jazz@Pizza Express in JLT. For a first timer, I am sure that it won’t be the last time I’m visiting the place. I loved the food, the drinks, the service and the entertainment. There’s not a lot of places like this in Dubai so this comes in highly recommended for me.
