One would think that since we are in Dubai and in a Middle Eastern country that it would be easy to find a good shawarma or authentic Emirati food. I believe it’s not. I mean, yes, there’s an abundance of shops and eateries serving this type of food but the question is, how’s the taste and the quality?
Good thing I discovered Shawarma Grill House on Jumeirah Beach Road. The restaurant is a small shop along the road near the famous Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel. It’s a no fuss kind of shop and people come here for the good food and quality service.
We visited on a Friday afternoon which is not a busy day for restaurants as most of the residents are either having brunch or still sleeping. We were surprised to see that as soon as they opened, people kept coming and that’s a good sign.
When it comes to the food, their menu has a selection of the best-grilled offerings that are well loved by the locals and expats alike. They don’t have a lot on the menu which is a good thing for me because then I won’t have a hard time choosing.
We ordered falafel, beef and chicken shawarma, fattoush, hummus, mixed grill and the premium wagyu beef. I think the portions are big enough for one – two persons to share. I love the fact that every dish is cooked as they are ordered and is served warm or piping hot to the customers.
I would suggest you try the premium wagyu beef when you visit and of course, the shawarma. It comes with fries too so it’s like a complete meal in itself.
The prices are reasonable for the quality that you’re getting. The hummus starts at AED19 for the plain one and AED23 if you want additional chicken or beef. The shawarma sandwiches range from AED20 -AED26 depending on the filling and the plates start at AED49 and go all the way up to AED165 for the premium beef. I honestly believe the prices are well worth your money.
In conclusion, I can genuinely say that I enjoyed dining at Shawarma Grill House. It’s perfect for when you have this craving for a good shawarma or grilled meat and you really want the best there is out there.
One thing I would like to see them improve is the parking as the lack of it might drive potential customers away. Other than that, I think it’s superb and it’s a place where I can take my friends and colleagues to if they are longing for the authentic Arabic street food experience.
