Dhow and Anchor or more popularly known as just D&A is an award-winning British gastropub which offers a new twist on modern British favorites. It is located at the beautiful Jumeirah Beach Hotel and has a large terrace area, a fully-fitted bar and amazing views of the Burj Al Arab.
The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner and for breakfast on the weekends. This particular review though is for when we visited last night for dinner.
As usual, parking is never a problem at Jumeirah Beach Hotel as they have valet service and when we entered the restaurant, I can’t believe that it was packed. It was a Saturday and it was not supposed to be busy but it was so I guess it’s a good thing.
The whole place looked very nice and it’s kind of sub divided into different areas like the bar, the lounge, the main dining area inside, the outdoor one and another that’s a level lower with a giant screen showing some live soccer games.
We looked at the menu and I saw some British staples but I was really happy when I saw that they serve pork in here. And it’s not the thin strips where you almost taste nothing but it’s actually the real deal.
We then proceeded to order and we started with some cocktails. They offer a lot of mixes and popular beer brands and wines so we opted for something refreshing. We tried the Mojito and with this kind of weather, it truly was refreshing.
Soon after we ordered the food and we started with the chicken liver parfait. Basically, it’s an apple compote and a warmed brioche. I believe we have the same thing in the Philippines but this one tasted way better than what we have back home.
We also ordered a salad with scotch egg, veal mince, and mixed greens. It was really tasty and coming from someone who’s not a fan of salads in general, I have to say that I really liked it.
For the mains, we ordered their Famous Fish ’N’ Chips and the Ploughman’s Platter.
The fish and chips with the Scottish haddock, homemade batter, hand-cut chips, mushy peas and the tartar sauce was unbelievably huge and was definitely meant for sharing. I’m glad that it tasted as I expected and I actually think slightly better than most restaurants.
The pork must have been the highlight of the night for me and I was really happy to actually have it in Dubai. It’s so hard to get a hold of really great tasting pork in here and theirs is easily one of the best ones.
The service is excellent at this restaurant and considering the number of diners at the time, I believe they are doing a really amazing job keeping it all together.
We ended our meal with some sweets and I couldn’t be any happier because these were just so good. My only suggestion for them would have to be for the way they serve the food. Surely, they can be more creative because as of now, the food is not very Instagram worthy. I know it’s a pub but a fancier presentation wouldn’t hurt.
To sum up, I loved the dining experience at Dhow & Anchor and I believe that with the heat in consideration, they really did an outstanding work with everything. I would definitely recommend dining here and I can’t wait for the weather to be better so we can see a clearer view of the Burj.
