Bakemart Gourmet

Bakemart Gourmet is the newest restaurant to open in the Jumeirah Road strip and offers a great view of the Burj Al Arab. It is very accessible and they even offer valet service so you don’t have to worry about the parking when you go and visit the place.

We went here on a Tuesday afternoon and as soon as we gave the car to the valet parking attendant, we were amazed at the nice setup of the outdoor dining area. It’s like a mini garden with chairs and tables and you have this small alley that leads to the restaurant.

So basically, the place is divided into three areas: one is the main dining area inside, the other one outside and the last one on the side which houses all the pastries, bread, and cakes where most of the clients go to choose from the array of mouth-watering sweets.

If you’re familiar with Bakemart, you would know that they are not new to the restaurant business. I believe they are more famous for the artisan bread and cakes that are made fresh every day. As a matter of fact, there is a Bakemart store in the same building as my office so we always buy our cakes in here whenever there’s a birthday or special occasion that needs to be celebrated.

Bakemart Gourmet though is slightly different. For starters, the cakes that are sold in here are more on the premium side and looks way better than the regular ones sold at the other stores. They also serve actual gourmet food that would impress even the most discerning palates.

We started our meal by ordering these giant coolers that are priced at AED25 each. First off, I really like the simple but cool presentation. It’s served in a giant mug and of course was really refreshing.

And then for the starters, we opted for the kale salad, different kinds of soups, the Mediterranean seafood and their Chicken Caesar Salad.

When the food was served, it was very noticeable that the restaurant was a tad bit fancier than the regular shops. From the tableware to the cutlery to the water bottle wrapped in a napkin, everything spelled gourmet.

And so we tried the food and so far for the starters, I liked all of them. Maybe it’s the more expensive ingredients or the presentation or maybe it’s a different chef but you can definitely notice the distinct taste and aroma.

We then ordered the main courses and we decided we want to try the burger, chicken curry, lamb shank and the Scottish Salmon.

Let’s start with the burger. Firstly, it was huge and obviously is meant for sharing. It comes on a board like this and with fries which by the way are really good. You also get bonus onion rings on top and the beef was cooked just the way I like it. It was juicy and tasty and undoubtedly a must-try.

The chicken curry, on the other hand, was very flavorful. I know it’s an Indian dish but I like the fact that they didn’t make it too spicy. I mean you can taste the flavors and enjoy them without sweating too much like I always do when I eat Indian food. My only comment was that the chicken can be cooked a little bit more as it’s not that tender and I did make a tiny effort in slicing the chicken.

The Scottish salmon was I think the second best dish for me during the night. I love how it was presented nicely and was a little crispy on the outside but really soft on the inside. And with the addition of mashed potatoes and vegetables that complemented it perfectly, I’m sure this is going to be one of their best sellers.

Last but not the least and my favorite, the Braised Lamb Shank. You might ask why it’s special? it’s because this signature dish of theirs is a dish prepared for 72 hours and so the outcome is the super tender meat falling off the bones. It’s really good and I would absolutely come back for this one alone.

In between, we tried their artisan tea which smelled amazing, to be honest. It was sweet enough and I’m sure tea lovers would appreciate this.

We finished our meal with their desserts which are not the cakes but instead new creations by the chef. We tried the brioche waffle, marshmallow pudding and the caramel pudding with ice cream on top. I’m not a fan of the waffle and the marshmallow pudding as I didn’t really get what they’re trying to do with it but I would surely recommend the last dessert.

To sum up, Bakemart Gourmet is categorically a great place and I’m glad that they finally opened this kind of restaurant in Dubai. With a location that’s as nice as this and with food and service that are up to the high standards of the residents and visitors alike, I can only predict great things happening for them.

There are some teething issues but it’s understandable considering that they have been operational for only a month but I’m pleased that they listen to the feedback from the guests. If you haven’t tried it, I suggest you visit them soon and with the winter almost upon us, what better way to enjoy a meal than outside the restaurant with the view of one of the most famous landmarks in the world. I really think you will love it.
