Sumo Sushi & Bento is one of the most popular Japanese restaurants in Dubai and the GCC. They have been around for more than 15 years providing a unique family friendly and authentic Japanese dishes to their loyal clients and guests.
To be honest, I have tried eating at the restaurant a lot of times already but during those times, I would only order what was familiar and common to me. Tonight was different because I wanted to try as many dishes as possible to be able to gauge the real flavor and to also see if they have been consistent all these years.
I always visit the Jumeirah branch but this time, I decided to go to the Media City one since it’s closer to my office. It’s a slightly smaller branch but it has outdoor seating so that kind of makes up for it. Inside, it looks nice with a small bar and comfy chairs and couches. The lighting is also nice and bright so I was very happy because I will be able to take nice pictures.
Looking at the menu, I noticed that they have a lot of variety on offer when it comes to the Japanese staples. I found it hard to decide which flavor of the sushi rolls to order because I wanted to try them all. We ended up going for the Samurai, Emperor, the Salmon with cream cheese and the sweet potato flavored sushi. When they were served, I was really happy because they tasted just how I imagined it to taste.
We started to order some drinks as well and just like the sushi rolls, they have a lot to choose from and same goes with the bento boxes. I have tried the chicken teriyaki before but again, just to be sure that it still tastes the same, I ordered it together with the tempura box. As expected, it was nice and I really appreciate the generous portions.
I’m surprised to see that they now have poke bowls because I think people are craving for this specific type of food nowadays. We ordered one along with some noodles and it was honestly, really good.
When it comes to the service, I can’t find any fault with it as they were really efficient and even the food was served minutes after the orders were placed. The prices are also unbelievably affordable for the quality and the wide range of healthy options.
To sum it all up, I believe you can never go wrong with Sumo Sushi and Bento. I like the fact that they have been consistent all this time and they keep on innovating and how they keep on bringing new things to the table, literally. I’m slowly becoming a fan of Japanese food because of restaurants like this and I would definitely highly recommend it to my friends and family as I’m sure it can please any palate.
